Smowtion Review
Founded in 2008, Smowtion is a US-based ad network that works with over 150,000 publishers worldwide and runs several different campaign types, alternating between CPC, CPM and CPA campaign models. We review over a hundred such programs on experienced-people.co.uk. As mentioned above, Smowtion implements a rotating campaigns strategy (CPC, CPM, and CPA). This is a mixed blessing, since on one hand it tremendously diversifies the ad inventory and monetization routes but on the other hand publishers have no way to select or block any campaigns as their rotation is dictated directly by Smowtion. This means publishers have limited control on what ads are shown in their pages and what kind of campaign model, CPC, CPM or CPA, they are currently paid for. At least, publishers can block ads on a per-URL basis which provides some sense of control but it can become awfully time-consuming for publishers to get it just right and then have their campaign rotated. again. At their website, Smowtion claims truly impressive eCPM averages and their decent 60% revenue share that can be further increased as Smowtion gets to know more about each publisher's sites and their visitors is arguably another tempting factor to join their program. Their official webpage is decent, if not a bit heavy on buzzwords, while their FAQ is quite good and comprehensive. As implied above, their control tools are limited but that's more due to the nature of the program itself and not the actual tools. Regardless, Smowtion boasts great customer support that is reachable through several different means (email, live chat, and phone) and swiftly responds to any queries publishers may have. Overall, publishers have good things to say about Smowtion in online reviews, discussions and comments. Positive comments focus on the aesthetically pleasing and greatly varied ad creatives while negative comments revolve around individual publishers with below-average earnings from Smowtion. The latter probably goes to show that due to Smowtion's revolving campaigns and the publishers' inability to influence them directly some publishers have drawn the short straw and received unfavorable campaigns for their sites. In closing; Smowtion may reassure publishers that their platform is specially designed to serve the ads which work best for each site no matter their type but most publishers value the freedom to choose what kind of campaign is running on their sites and this can be a huge turn-off. Apart from the lack of freedom to choose campaigns and the overall limited control options, we must stress that Smowtion seems to perform great on every other front, especially if their claimed eCPMs are as good as they seem for most publishers.
